1080p vs 4K Lyric Videos for Church Projection: Which Do You Need?

When you're buying lyric videos for your worship service, one of the first questions is: do I need 1080p or 4K? The honest answer depends on your projection setup — and for most churches, 1080p is the right choice. Here's how to decide.

Understanding the Difference

  • 1080p (Full HD): 1920×1080 pixels. The standard for most church projection systems, confidence monitors, and LED walls under 4 metres wide.
  • 4K (Ultra HD): 3840×2160 pixels. Four times the pixel count. Noticeably sharper on large LED walls, high-end laser projectors, and screens wider than 5–6 metres.

When 1080p Is the Right Choice

For the majority of churches, 1080p lyric videos are the better option because:

  • Most church projectors (Epson, BenQ, Optoma) output at 1080p natively
  • ProPresenter, EasyWorship, and MediaShout all handle 1080p without any performance hit
  • File sizes are smaller — easier to store, faster to download, and less strain on your presentation computer
  • The visual difference is imperceptible on screens under 4 metres when viewed from typical congregation distances (5+ metres away)

When 4K Is Worth It

Consider 4K if your church has:

  • A large LED wall (typically 6m+ wide)
  • A 4K laser projector (Sony, Panasonic, Christie)
  • A high-spec presentation computer with a dedicated GPU (NVIDIA RTX series or equivalent)
  • A screen-to-audience distance where pixel density is visible (large auditoriums, TV broadcast setups)

The File Size Reality

4K files are typically 3–5× larger than their 1080p equivalents. A 4-minute lyric video at 1080p might be 400–600MB; the same video at 4K could be 1.5–2GB. If your presentation laptop has limited storage or your internet connection is slow, this matters.

What About Confidence Monitors and Side Screens?

Side screens and confidence monitors almost always run at 1080p or lower. Sending a 4K signal to a 1080p monitor wastes resources and can cause display issues in some setups. If you're running a multi-output setup, 1080p is the safer universal choice.

Our Recommendation

Start with 1080p. It covers 90% of church setups beautifully. If you upgrade to a large LED wall or 4K projector in the future, you can re-download 4K versions — all Talesoft Digital products include both resolutions where available.
